In the Ch'ing period, traditional Chinese literary criticism reached its zenith. The ten essays in this volume, all papers presented at a research conference on Ch'ing literary criticism at Stanford University in June 1992, provide a good glimpse of both the breadth and depth of Ch'ing literary criticism, and point to ways to pursue a more thorough and systematic study of literary criticism of this period.
